I also used your term "dark green religion" in my most recent post as of this comment:
http://thomaswebb.net/2010/01/23/thoughts-on-avatar/
to describe the naturalistic paganism of the Navi in the movie "Avatar".

I'm actually slowly writing a sci-fi novel in which one form of deep green religion is replaced by another. It'll be interesting.

Dear Thomas: thanks for mentioning my book, DARK GREEN RELIGION: NATURE SPIRITUALITY AND THE PLANETARY FUTURE. That folks like you, independently, are grappling toward naturalistic animism and/or pantheism, is what I explore, in detail, historically, and with examples from 5 continents, in the book. You'll discover you're part of something much bigger and influential than you might have originally thought! I'll link to your reflections, in due course, where I have supplementary materials for my book, at www.brontaylor.com. Persevere, Bron

no doubt humans will learn more about the universe, it's laws and it's elements.
But to know everything about it or even an extreme amount of information / understanding of it would take the perceptions, senses, physical and material aptitude that would come from being non-human. Although humans are subjectively exceptional creatures, we are limited by our physical humanity. We can look at the sun, and are nourished by it and measure it. But we are not the Sun that is so massive and hot and with a life span of billions of years. That Sun has been through a lot and is so great it doesn't even have a mind. It doesn't need one.
